Google Launches New Cardboard Camera App – Turns your Panoramic Photos into 3D VR Experiences
Google, the giant search engine has just released a new app called Cardboard Camera that lets you create 360 degrees panoramic photos in virtual reality. The new Cardboard camera app allows you to turn your own panoramic photos as a 3D VR experience. Google has introduced this new app as part of its Google Cardboard platform with the capability to present your own scenic photos as a 360-degree VR experience. You can use this feature that works on your smartphone as a VR viewer.
These days, almost all smartphone cameras have this panorama feature and you can simply hold up your camera and move it in a winding fashion to capture the view around you. Once after capturing everything all around you, you can place your smartphone in your Google Cardboard. Now, you can experience this 360-degree photo as you would a regular VR video with a complete ability to look around just by simply moving your head. The images can be viewed as 3D VR images.
The VR images are three-dimensional panoramas that appear with slightly varied views for each eye. The working of a Cardboard camera is that it shows each eye in a slightly different viewpoint of the photo which eventually results in an immersive 3D effect. Near things look near and far things look far, and one can look around to explore the image in all directions. Additionally, the Cardboard camera app also stores audio while capturing the photo so that you can hear the moment just as it happened.
“With Cardboard Camera, anyone can create their own VR experience. So revisit the mountaintop that took hours to hike, or the zoo where you saw (and heard) the monkeys, or your birthday party with the cake out and candles still lit. Capture the moments that matter to you and relive them anytime, from anywhere,” Google further explains in a blog post.
Earlier, in the month of September, there were reports about the Microsoft company is also working on a VR viewer called VR kit so as to rival the Google’s Cardboard camera. Google has launched this new app to create 3D viewing experience for the users. You can now capture the moment in any of your friend’s wedding celebrations for posterity with the killer view. Google’s Cardboard app is now available for all the Android users via Google Play Store.
