Happy Ganga Dussehra 2019, which is also called as the Gangavataran, is a Hindu celebration that celebrates the avatarana of the Ganges. Many followers of the religion believe that the holy Ganges River descended from heaven on the day it is celebrated. The Ganga Dussehra happens on the 10th day of the Jyeshtha month in the Hindu calendar.

The Ganga Dussehra lasts for 10 days.

It usually falls in the month of June or May, Ganga Dussehra means “the descent of the Ganga”.

The Ganga Dussehra is usually celebrated one day before the Nirjala Ekadashi, but sometimes, the Ganga Dusshera and the Nirjala Ekadashi falls on the same day and the festivals are celebrated together.

Before coming to earth, Ganga, a Goddess in the Hindu religion, she was residing in the Kamandal of Lord Brahma, when she came down to earth, Ganga brought the purity of heaven along with her.

During the Ganga Dussehra, devotees worship Ganga and take a bath in the Ganges River, many believe that it is high auspicious when you take a bath in the Ganges River and you offer charity, which is called Dan-Punya in Hindi, on the Ganga Dussehra day.

Ganga Dussehra is celebrated mostly in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal.
