Authorities in Kerala have announced a ban on alcohol to tackle a growing abuse problem in the southern Indian state, a popular tourist destination.

The state government warned that alcohol abuse was a danger to society, because a plan to ban the sale and consumption in 10 years revealed.
He said he would grant new licenses to sell alcohol, while many of the 720 bars and restaurants in the state would have to renew their licenses.
Starting next year, only For five-star hotels are licenses are granted.
“It is true that (alcohol) as a continuing threat to society. This has a negative effect,” said the leader Oommen Chandy Minister of Kerala Thursday evening.
“Kerala should be ready to capture the essence of (a) to absorb the total ban on alcohol in the state.”
Kerala has an annual consumption of more than India per capita alcohol to 8.3 liters.

Tourism officials said they had not been consulted, and warned that the liberation of the five-star hotels would not be enough to save the industry, with many tourists who be in small inns.
“Therefore, the simplicity of the beer and wine to tourists in four-star hotels and below category, we reject,” an official Federation of Industry, Tourism Kerala The Hindu newspaper said.
