Virat Kohli breaks Vivian Richards’ 25-year record:

Richards needed 141 innings (156 matches) to reach the 6,000-run mark. He achieved the feat in 1989, against Pakistan in Brisbane. The Delhi boy had started the 3rd ODI needing 50 runs to complete 6,000 runs. He reached his half century and helped India take an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series. Kohli was dismissed for 53 (61 balls, 4×4, 1×6). India won the match by 6 wickets, successfully chasing 243.

Last year, the 26-year-old had equalled Richards in being the fastest to 5,000 runs. Kohli had matched Richards for 5,000 runs, on November 21, 2013. Both Kohli and Richards took 114 innings to reach 5,000 runs.

Former captain Sourav Ganguly was the previous fastest Indian to 6,000 runs, scoring in 147 runs. Batting legend Sachin Tendulkar took 170 innings to the milestone. However, Tendulkar is the youngest to reach 6,000, scoring at the age of 24 years, 264 days.

Virat Kohli surpasses Mahendra Singh Dhoni as world’s most popular cricketer on social media:

India’s star batsman Virat Kohli is reportedly the world’s most popular cricketer currently even though his Mahendra Singh Dhoni would still have him covered if they compared bank balances. The talented 26-year-old has become a social media phenomenon since consolidating his position, as India’s captain-in-waiting, connecting with young fans on a level no other player can match.

At last count Kohli had more than 18 million Facebook likes, well ahead of his captain Dhoni, who ranks second with just over 11 million. After passing the 3 million Twitter follower mark in April this year he now has 4.34 million, that’s an average of almost 7000 new followers a day and again miles in front of second-ranked Dhoni’s 3.18 million.
