Alabama, USA: A single mother of 7 kids is currently raising 12 children after her sister and brother-in-law passed away from the coronavirus.
Francesca McCall, of Birmingham, Alabama, welcomed her 5 nieces and nephews into their house after the death of their parents.
The woman did not want them to get separated from each other.
Francesca and Chantale, the young sister, promised each other that they would care for each other’s children if something unfortunate happens to them.
Chantale had been doing well when she was hospitalized in Selma, however, the health Chantale deteriorated after she was placed on a ventilator.
The woman passed away at a hospital in Birmingham.
On September 16, 2020, Chantale passed away.
On October 25, 2020, Rance Martin, the husband of Chantale passed away from the virus.
The death date of Martin was also the 35th birthday of Chantale.
Francesca had reportedly stayed with Chantale the weekend before she tested positive for the coronavirus.
Her mother and kids also caught the virus.
Despite having close contact, the rest of the family did not test positive for the coronavirus.
Chantale worked for a home health agency and was following all the coronavirus guidelines and was following all the basic precautionary measures.
After the death of her sister and brother-in-law, Francesca decided to raise the kids.
She is now responsible for raising 12 children between the ages of two and seventeen, with the boys in one room and the girls in another two rooms.
During an interview with CNN, Francesca said:
They’re doing okay at times and at times they break down, so they’re having their days and their moments. It’s been very hard losing their friends, church family and basically everything that’s held dear to them. It’s a little chaotic at times, trying to get everybody online for school and getting them fed before they get in school. Once you get them up and get them situated it’s okay.
People are supporting Francesca and members of the church and the community are trying to help out the family.
A churchgoer named Carla McDonald has helped set up a GoFundMe page for Francesca and her family.
As of writing this article, the family has raised over 317,000 USD.
