A New Drug for The Treatment of Smallpox
A disease that has gone extinct, smallpox. The Food and Drug Administration approved the drug. Which first ever drug capable of treating smallpox. As per reports, it’s made for just in case. If the disease used as a bioterrorist weapon. By terrorist who may cause many problems. Also, for such things, the drug has been approved.
What do experts say?
“This new treatment affords us an additional option should smallpox ever be used as a bioweapon,” FDA Commissioner Dr. Scott Gottlieb said in a statement.
The drug is named as a generic name for tecovirimat called Tpoxx. 359 people have tested the drug as safety issues. Also, also has been tested for efficiency, an animal. Which were infected with something close to smallpox?
A drug which can not be used to be tested on humans. Ethically since it has to be purposely infected the human first to test it. Which forbids the tests from FDA. However, under special rules. The drug makers can ask for approval if the drug is proven to be safe. Moreover, also has been tested in Animals.

When was Smallpox eradicated?
The disease had been eradicated in the year 1980. Which was possible after a global vaccination campaign. In the U.S the last outbreak was in the year 1949. So the last case reported was in the year 1977.
However, the current situation is different from the past. Many of the people aren’t even vaccinated against Smallpox. However, the samples of the virus have been stored. Moreover, the experts have suggested that some governments, including the former Soviet Union. Had plans to make a bioterrorist weapon using the virus.
During the time period, the disease was thriving. It had killed almost 30 percent of the people it had infected. Which scared survivors as well. It had killed as much as 500 millions people. In the 20th century alone.
Though there is no trace of the disease now. It’s a beautiful thing to have if something terrible happens.
