A disease that has gone extinct, smallpox. The Food and Drug Administration approved the drug. Which first ever drug capable of treating smallpox. As per reports, it’s made for just in case. When was Smallpox eradicated?

The disease had been eradicated in the year 1980. Which was possible after a global vaccination campaign. In the U.S the last outbreak was in the year 1949. So the last case reported was in the year 1977.

However, the current situation is different from the past. Many of the people aren’t even vaccinated against Smallpox. However, the samples of the virus have been stored. Moreover, the experts have suggested that some governments, including the former Soviet Union. Had plans to make a bioterrorist weapon using the virus.
