Have You Ever Wondered About The Hanging Thing At The Other End Of Your Tongue?

There are some parts of our body which look quite bizarre and their presence totally confuses us, especially the purpose. Well! we’re not talking about Appendix.

You might have noticed that little bell like looking organ at the end of your throat when you scream out as loudly as you may even break a glass.

Yes! that little part that swings over our tongue in its path, just like a pendulum clock, where the pendulum works so much weirdly. Now, there are a plethora of doubts regarding its presence and necessity, however, most of us don’t know what actually that part does, or why is it’s presence so much mandatory or even necessary.

According to the sources, there are some biological benefits of this ‘palatine uvula’ (oh! that’s how we call it), scroll on to read the points:

  1. The first and foremost of all, uvula helps the body to guide the flow of food and water in the living beings.

  2. The functions of the uvula include gag reflex, so no piercing is allowed on the uvula, a gag reflex is the contraction of the back of the throat triggered by an object touching the roof of your mouth, the back of your tongue, the area around your tonsils, or the back of your throat area.

  3. And another crucial reason is, it basically serves as an accessory to speech.

  4. Additively, the uvula is there to provide the proper lubrication for complicated human speech.
