Low B-12 is the Matter Of Concern For Adults
A study conducted on the large population of Ireland has found some serious issues. Adults aged 50 or above have a deficiency of vitamin B-12 and folate. This may expose them to poor health conditions in the long run.
The whole study was conducted and analyzed the medical information of 5290 people who are aged 50 or more than that. The basic focus of the study was to establish whether the general level of two significant nutrients, vitamin B-12 or folate were adequate among the mature people or not.
Both these nutrients have been associated with the various anemia- related health issues including fatigue, headaches, weight loss, and sometimes impaired memory.
Products that should be Fortified
Public health policies of various countries suggest that multiple products such as cereals should be fortified with folate. The nutrients like grams and cereal help the body to build and maintain the vitamin B-12 and folate.
The study which has now been published in the British journal of nutrition suggests that official health policies should take these concerns more seriously.
Both the nutrients vitamin B-12 and folate are crucial elements in the brain health, nerve functions and also in the development of red blood cells. These nutrients also help the human body to repair of DNA.
In the study of 5000 adults in Ireland, researchers found that every 1 person in 8 older adults has the deficiency of the B-12 vitamin. 1 in 7 older adults had low folate level.
Moreover the requirement of adequate folate level it seemed to be increased with age. Mature adult of aged between 50-60 requires 14% of folate while the older mature of aged 80 requires 23% of folate.
People who are addicted to the smoking habits has inadequate folate level. A similar condition was drawn for B-12 deficiency for the people who smoke. Study founds the deficiency of B-12 in those persons who live alone.
Deficiency of B-12 and folate level can be seen in older adult population, but this can be easily be cured through fortification. All the adult-aged men should be focused on their diet plans and consume such nutrients which include B-12 and folate.
