Professor Maha Hussain Statement

Lead study author professor Maha Hussain says she is delighted with the results. The drug not only helps to cure the prostate cancer but also some other diseases related effects.

Prostate cancer is also known as castration-resistant. It means that the cancer is still growing in the body even after hormone treatment. Prostate cancer cells need testosterone to increase. The first focus for any cancer patient may respond well to treatment that reduces the male hormone.

But unfortunately, there is no treatment available to improve the prospects once cancer reaches this stage. This stage of cancer is aggressive and pushes the person towards death.

The prostate is the small gland between the bladder and the penis. When cancer has outgrown the primary part and reached to the prostate, it is termed as metastatic prostate cancer.

Cancer sends some out migrating cells that give rise to secondary cancer in other parts of the body.

Enzalutamide drug blocks the ability of the prostate cancer cells to feed on testosterone and other remote areas of the body. The drug helps to the die the cells affected by cancer or sometimes the cells go into the dormant state.

While the hormone therapy for prostate cancer reduces levels of testosterone. The initial lack of hormone therapy that does not shut down all sources of the prostate in the body. Professor Hussain says that even a whiff of male hormone stimulates cancer.
