Delhi police said that 2 JeM members (Jaish-e-Mohammed) were arrested ahead of the republic day, the two members of the terrorist group were planning to attack the national capital on January 26.

29-year-old Abdul Latif Ganaie also known as Dilawar and 26-year-old Hilal Ahmad Bhat were both residents of Jammu and Kashmir, they lived in Batapora and Wakura.

PS Kushwah the Deputy Commissioner of Police Special Cell said that Dilawar was arrested after the police got an information from the military that a house was having suspicious activities in Laxmi Nagar.

He added that Dilawar frequently came to Rajghat and met someone that was a member of their group. When he got arrested police found weapons that were in his possession.

Police found a .32 bore pistol and 26 cartridges in his possession. They also found 3 stamps of his JeM commanders.

The DCP said that it took the police of Delhi a couple of months to properly identify Dilawar.

DCP Kushwah added that a team was immediately sent to his house in Jammu and Kashmir, this was where police recovered 2 hand grenades from his home.

Hilal Ahmad Bhat was also arrested today, he was responsible for a couple of terrorist attacks in Delhi. The police arrested him in Bandipora, said the DCP.

DCP Kushwah said that during the questioning they found out that Dilawar is the District commander of the terror outfits in Ganderbal.

Dilawar also told the Delhi police that he was continuously in touch with Abu Mauz his Pakistani handler via WhatsApp and Telegram.

DCP Kushwah said that Mauz gave Dilawar 12 hand grenades, 30 cartridges, and a pistol through an Aaqib.

JeM member Dilawar was instructed to use the 12 grenades on the police forces in Jammu and Kasmir, also he was asked to use them in some parts of Delhi to stop the Republic Day celebrations during that day.

Dilawar told the police that he gave 2 grenades to Abid, he used them in an attack on Army personnel in Jammu and Kasmir on January 4.

DCP Kushwah also revealed that JeM member Dilawar also handed some grenades to Shahbaz in Srinagar and Bhat.

After they were arrested on Tuesday, the Jammu and Kashmir police were informed about the report.

DCP Kushwah said that Dilawar came in contact with the group through a course in sapore, he started to talk to them via social media platforms.

DCP Kushwah added that the terrorist group was impressed by what Dilawar said, so Mauz started to communicate with him and started to send video and audio clips of Chief Maulana Azhar Masood (The JeM Chief).

Dilawar also said that Mauz instructed him to explore VIP areas, markets, and gas pipelines that would help them identify the blast targets on the Republic Day.

DCP Kushwah said that the JeM member Dilawar was arrested back in 2016 for throwing stones at the Sadar Ganderbal police station.
