Police Report: On Tuesday, a city court in Kolkata sentenced a 22-year-old man to 10 years of RI (Rigorous Imprisonment) for raping a 14-year-old girl after forcibly marrying her at a temple.

22-year-old Abhijit Paik was found guilty of kidnapping the girl from her residence in the area of Narkeldanga in the eastern part ok Kolkata and raping her afterwards.

Jimut Bahan Biswas the Additional Sessions Judge at the Sealdah Court sentenced 22-year-old Abhijit Paik to 10 years in prison for raping the girl and 5 years in prison for kidnapping her from her house.

The court also ordered a compensation of Rs. 5 Lakh for the 14-year-old girl that will be given by the West Bengal Government under the provisions of the POCSO Act.

22-year-old Abhijit Paik will also pay a total of Rs. 60,000 as a fine of the 2 offenses he committed, the 90 percent of the fine will be given to the 14-year-old girl.

On December 10, 2018, the 14-year-old girl went missing from her home after she went out at 11:30 PM.

Vivek Sharma, the public prosecutor said that they found out that 22-year-old Abhijit Paik lured the girl and forced her to marry him at a temple in the area.

After the mother of the 14-year-old girl reported the incident at the Narkeldanga Police Station, the police started an investigation and rescued the minor on 23 December. Later on, 22-year-old Abhijit Paik was arrested by the police.

During the trial, the minor said that she was in a relationship with 22-year-old Abhijit Paik for the last 3 years and she was persuaded by him.

22-year-old Abhijit Paik claims that the 14-year-old girl went out with him with her own will and said that he is not guilty.
