Gigantic Sperm Whale Found Dead In Mangrove Area By Indonesian Fishermen

Fishermen are baffled with a discovery, which uncovered the dead body of a gigantic whale lying in a swamp in a mangrove forest in Indonesia.

The 9.2-meter long sperm whale washed up in the village of Tassilo, which is located in the Rote Ndao Regency of the East Nusa Tenggara Province in Indonesia.

The stranded whale was around 500 meters away from shore.

After the local fishermen called the authorities about the discovery, the government water conservation team arrived at the forest to collect the corpse of the giant whale.

The animal is believed to have died after suffering extensive injuries.

Ikram Sangadji, a spokesperson for the Kupang Water Conservation Area Agency water conservation team, released a statement about the incident.

Ikram said, “We sent a team, soon we were told the location to recover the body and bury it to prevent the water table being contaminated.”

Ikram and the team of vets performed the test on the whale, but so far they haven’t been able to come up with any definitive conclusions.

The body of the whale had been buried in a large hole, which was dug in a nearby area with an excavator.

Local residents have been urged against touching the body or making any attempt to eat any of the meat of the whale.

According to the information given by local residents, the mammal’s body was discovered on January 22, 2020, at nearly 1 pm local time.

Maria Foes, the head of the village, said they contacted the police after receiving the report about of the protected animal.

Maria said, “We suspect that the sperm whale had been stranded and died a few days [before it was found].”

The reason for the whale’s death is still unknown.
