Man Who Smashed Seagull To Death Because It Tried To Steal His Food Is Ordered To Pay $994
qqq65-year-old John Llewellyn Jones was on a trip to Weston-Super-Mare for one day when a seagull suddenly appeared and tried to steal the bag of chips that he had in his hands, and as a result of anger and poor thinking, he smashed the seagull to death.
According to reports, Jones caught the bird by its legs and thrashed it a number of times.

A number of people so the incident and some children that saw the incident started to cry right on the spot.
A passer-by took the bird from the scene and rushed it to a vet so it could be put down to avoid further pain.
One thing that Jones did not know is that thlesserer black-backed gull is a protected species in the UK. Not only that, but there is a law that prohibits people from killing these animals.
Rachael Beer, a worker at a seaside sweet shop, was one of the witnesses that saw the entire incident, which happened in July 2019.
She sent 3 pictures of the incident to the RSPCA.
Recalling the incident, she said:
I saw a seagull squawking and then taking a chip from a man’s plate. Suddenly he then grabbed it by its feet and swung it against the wall. I heard one of the mums say ‘why did you do that in front of my child?’ and he said ‘it’s vermin, you should teach your children about vermin’. I walked up to the gull and took a photo of it and then him. I said ‘why did you do that’ and he just shrugged his shoulders and walked away.
She said that a number of children that were at the beach saw the incident and they were left in tears because of the horrible things that Jones had done.
She continued:
The seagull wasn’t dead at first. We could see its eyes twitching. Thankfully a passer-by came and took it to the vet. Seagulls are a problem but to kill one like that is just wrong.
Jones, the man that we are talking about, is a retired delivery driver from Cardiff.
At first, he was denied a charge under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, however that changed when he was found guilty by a judge at North Somerset Magistrates’ Court.
Jones was given a 12-week curfew and was ordered to pay $994 and around $134 victim surcharge.
Simon Evans, an RSPCA Inspector, released a statement about the incident, where they said:
This was deliberate cruelty, borne from the fact that this man cared more for his chips than what his actions did to the poor gull. Simply, the man showed blatant disregard for an animal because he was annoyed about his chips. This was an unthinkable and despicable way to treat an animal – with this gull smashed against a wall by the man, solely because it knocked chips from his hand. Witnesses saw the attack – and shocked bystanders, including children, had to look on as the man killed the gull.
Such people should get harsher sentences for the horrible crimes that they commit against animals.
