Heartbreaking images that are viral on the internet right now shows a female dog looking like she is made out of stone.

The poor dog was neglected and ignored by heartless humans.

Madelyn, the 5-year-old dog, was found wandering the streets in extreme pain by animal lovers in Houston, Texas, which is located in the United States of America.

Veterinaries that are treating the dog say that she is suffering from a heart condition and confirmed that her fur has gone away.

Madelyn is now being looked after by an animal welfare agency called This Is Houston, which says that she had been failed by human beings.

In a statement that the animal welfare agency released on social media, they said:

Her spirit is broken. Her fur is gone. Her entire body hurts. Her mind is wondering what she did wrong. Her heart is torn. This is what happens when a living animal is ignored for so long.

Little is known about how the dog managed to get into the condition she has right now and why she was abandoned by her previous owners.

The charity added in their statement:

This baby knew nothing but pain and misery for her entire life. She’s five years old and has been completely failed by humans. Can you imagine how many people saw her over those five years and ignored her? Our hearts break thinking about how her life has been up until this point.

Madelyn is suffering from an enlarged heart and a medical examination allowed the vets to know that the poor dog has heartworm.

The dog underwent a procedure that helped it become in a good health.

The animal welfare group added:

She has a long road to recovery, but she’ll get there. She has lots of sleep to catch up on, and once she’s no longer contagious from the scabies, she will catch up on all the love, too.

Follow-up checkups will be carried out to make sure that the surgery went well.

Doctors will also see if her heart is still enlarged with the help of x-rays.
