This Hippo Was Beaten, Kicked, And Stabbed To Death In El Salvador Zoo

With all the chaos in this world, everything sounds like the end is coming near. From the deaths of thousands of people and towards animal abuse, there is just no stopping.

In an incident that has resurfaced the internet, Gustavito, a hippo that used to live in El Salvador Zoo, was beaten to death.

Originally, the incident happened in 2017, but it resurfaced the internet recently.

Salvadorans mourned the death of Gustavito through social media and left flowers at the gate of the zoo.

After the incident, the authorities closed down the zoo.

Martin Castillo, a street vendor in central San Salvador, said, “Here we’re used to seeing the dead every day.”

Castillo added, “They kill us like flies, but this tops it all. They killed an animal that only entertained us.”

Vladan Henriquez, the director of the Zoo, said at a news conference that the hippo was covered with bruises and puncture wounds after apparently being attacked with metal bars, stones, and knives.

The attack occurred last week, but zookeepers did not discover the injuries of the hippo until Thursday because he did not leave his pool.

Gustavito died of his injuries late on Sunday.

Mauricio Ramirez Landaverde, the Justice Minister of the country, said that an investigation was launched for the incident.

Gustavito, the hippo, was born and raised in Guatemala, but was brought to El Salvador 13 years ago.

Carmen Rogel, a resident that took her grandson to the zoo, said, “We’re angry.”

Rogel added, “We didn’t know they had killed Gustavito and were surprised when we arrived and the gate was closed.”

After all these years, people are still mourning the death of the hippo.

Rest in peace Gustavito, you are missed.
