Veterinary Nurse Banned After Drugging A Siberian Husky To Stop Constant Barking

A veterinary nurse has been banned for illegally drugging a pet dog in order to stop it from barking constantly during a night shift.

According to official reports, Paul Chaney, the nurse, injected the Siberian Husky with a strong sedative during a night shift to stop it from barking.

The barking had reportedly left the man frustrated.

The incident happened during the shift at Vets Now in Harrow, north-west London in April 2018.

Chaney did not tell anyone in the veterinary that he had given the pooch a dose of Butorphanol.

The news was revealed during a disciplinary hearing in front of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.

However, the nurse made videos of the incident and sent them to his flat mate.

In the video, he told the pooch that he was going to shoot the dog.

He also sent out text messages about how he was handling animals that were making too much noise.

The incident came to light after officials with the Department for Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs searched the property.

The nurse was living there with 2 other people.

The authorities visited the place due to other matters.

Investigations also revealed that Chaney stole 2 prescription medicines from an animal surgery and brought it home for his own pet dog.

The nurse received a police caution for the offences and had no excuses.

The nurse admitted 6 of the misconduct charges that were placed against him.

The panel found him guilty of a 7th charge of dishonesty for changing records in relation to the drugs that he stole from the vet.

Authorities did not reveal any further information about the incident.
