Man Finds Over $43,000 Stashed Inside Couch That He Purchased From A Thrift Store

A man from Michigan found over $43,000 stashed inside a couch that he bought from a thrift store.

Howard Kirby, the man from Michigan, said he bought the couch from the Habitat from Humanity ReStore in Owosso, which is a thrift store.

Kirby said he used the couch in his man cave for a number of weeks before deciding to investigate why the foot cushion was unusually firm.

The daughter-in-law of Kirby decided to open up the cushion and discovered bundles of cash totaling $43,170.

After finding the money, Kirby called their lawyer and told them about the money.

Kirby said his lawyer told him that he would be within his rights to keep the cash, but he decided to contact the store that sold him the couch.

Kirby asked the store if they could identify the original owner of the couch.

The money was later presented to Kim Fauth-Newberry, whose recently deceased grandfather was the original owner of the furniture.

She said her family had no idea he had such a large amount of cash stashed away.

Fauth-Newberry said they would have burned the entire couch if no thrift shop bought it or accepted it.

The kind 61-year-old man returned the whole money to the relatives of the deceased owner.
