5-Year-Old Boy Died After Grandmother Left Him In Car In 32C Heat As She Spent 6 Hours In A Casino

A 50-year-old grandmother has been sentenced to spend 17 years in jail for leaving her 5-year-old grandson in a hot car with no air-conditioning as she played inside a casino for 6 hours.

Alanna Jean Orr was sentenced to 210 months after she left her 5-year-old grandson Maddox Ryan Durbin in a sweltering hot car for 6 hours.

The grandmother was reportedly caring for the young boy on June 21, 2018, when she entered the Kickapoo Casino in Harrah, Oklahoma at around 1:23 pm.

Orr reportedly left the 5-year-old boy inside the car as temperatures outside were at 32 degrees Celsius.

The grandmother did not leave the casino until 7:28 pm.

Orr called authorities around 15 minutes after she left the casino and claimed that her grandson had choked.

The grandmother also told the police that he was not breathing, that’s why she took him to the Harrah Police Department.

Authorities said that they tried to resuscitate the child, however, rigor mortis had already begun.

For those that do not know what rigor mortis is, it is a sign of death that is identified by the stiffening of the limbs or a body.

Maddox, the 5-year-old boy, and Orr, the grandmother, are Native Americans.

The offense took place on tribal trust land, the case was subject to federal jurisdiction.

A federal grand jury in the Indian County found that Orr caused the death of the 5-year-old boy.

The grandmother is a member of the Kickapoo tribe.

The jury said that the grandmother had committed the crime willfully by failing to provide shelter and supervision as the 5-year-old was in her care.

The grandmother pleaded guilty to causing her grandson’s death on July 30th, 2019.

She was remanded into custody.
