The police in Mexico are currently investigating the death of a 12-year-old girl, whose body was found in a cane field.

According to the police the incident happened in the state of Jalisco.

The stepfather of the 12-year-old girl has been arrested by the police.

Elsy Michelle left her house in the colony of El Alamo at around 5 pm on 16th August.

According to reports, Elsy went to the nearby Los Conejos ranch where family members were working so she could borrow a phone charger.

However, this was the last time the girl was seen alive.

After she went missing, the family of the girl disappeared and the local police organized a search party of the little one.

On the evening of Sunday, the search party found the dead body of the girl.

On the road to La Joya, Mexico, the girl’s body was found with signs of being tortured and sexually assaulted.

The Jalisco State Prosecutor’s Office released a statement about the incident, where they said:

The mainline of investigation could point to someone close to the minor, including the stepfather, who is already under investigation.

The death of the young girl has sparked a social media campaign that is demanding justice for Mexican women.

Official data suggests that women in Mexico are victims of violent crimes. Over 66 percent of women in the country experience some type of domestic violence in their lives.
