A 38-year-old pedophile from Australia that wanted to infect children with HIV has been freed from prison on bail.
On Thursday, 38-year-old Jadd William Brooker was granted jail at the Christies Beach Magistrates Court in Adelaide.
He will be living with his grandmother in-home detention.
He is currently in custody as prosecutors work to appeal the decision in the Supreme Court.
South Australian Police warned Brooker should not be released from prison because he pursues teens for sex and is known for attempting to destroy evidence that is left behind.
One of the teenagers that Brooker had sex with did not know that he was HIV positive.
He was also subject to child exploitation material.
Prosecutors told the court:
(The surviving victim) was unaware of Brooker’s medical status when they engaged in sexual activity, and he is currently undergoing medical testing.
When he was contacted in prison by his mother, she volunteered to delete the Facebook account, a social media platform.
He also asked her to wipe out the other accounts for him.
Brooker provided his email and password for his Microsoft Live account and asked his mother to delete them.
The police prosecutors said:
Given the nature of the charges, a lot of potential evidence is stored in the cloud – potentially millions of pieces of evidence – and this is an attempt to destroy it before police can uncover it.
It is reported that the 38-year-old went on to target 19 children.
The kids that he targeted were 13 and 16 years old.
Brooker also has connections with other pedophiles.
Police Magistrate Rodney Oates sent out warnings about the dangers of bail, however, they were not heard.
Brooker was granted bail because he does not have a prior criminal history, no breaches of bail, and the presumption of innocence.
The accused is yet to plead to multiple counts of disseminating and possessing child exploitation material.
Brooker targeted children from December of 2015 and August 2020.
He also maintained an illegal relationship with 2 male teenagers.
Investigators have evidence to prove that Brooker wanted to infect children and adults with HIV, a disease that still has no cure.
Brooker was released on $1,000 bail.
