Rape And Murder Of Student Sparks Outrage In Nigeria

Following the rape and murder of a 22-year-old student in Nigeria, the citizens of the country have started to demand justice.

Uwavera Omozuwa was raped and murdered in a church in the country.

The hashtag #JusticeFor Uwa is currently in Nigeria.

Her family is currently appealing for help to track down her killers.

Uwavera had been studying in a quiet church near her house in Benin City when she got killed.

The horrible news was shared by Judith, her sister, when she got in contact with BBC Pidgin.

The student, who wanted to be a nurse, died in a hospital on Sunday, which is 3 days after the attack happened.

Judith Omazuwa said that her sister had also been raped.

Her family said that they received a call from a woman at the Redeemed Christian Church of God on the evening of Wednesday.

Uwavera was taken to hospital after a security guard found her, her skirt torn, and her shirt covered in blood.

A police spokesperson in southern Edo State, whose capital is Benin City, said that they are currently treating the case as a murder case, not a rape and murder case.

The student died after a fight at the church, the spokesperson of the police said without sharing any details about the horrible incident.

Uwavera had only been admitted to the University of Benin to study microbiology when she got killed.

She often went to sit and read at the church near her house because it was quiet.

Unconfirmed reports in local media said a group of men had entered the church, raping Uwavera and hitting her with a fire extinguisher.
