A 92 Year Retired Commander V Sriramulu won Gold in World Masters Athletic Championships. It’s an Inspiration!

For those who thought that age was more than a number, Yes here is a success story of Vallabhajosyula Sriramulu, a 92 year old Retired Commander from Vizag took part in a 10km speed walk in the 90-94 year category at the World Masters Athletic Championships 2015 from August 4 to 16 in France and won Gold medal.

“I participated in 5-km, 10-km and 20-km speed walk and could complete the 10-km walk and get the gold. While 20-km walk is my favorite I could not complete since I was disqualified from both 5-km and 20-km events,” Commander Sriramulu said.

Sriramulu won by completing the walk at a timing of 1:36:05, as his main German competitor faced disqualification for breaking the rules of the slow walk. A contestant has to stick to specific guidelines, which say that both feet should not be in the air together at any point of time during the race.

Also, when a participant has to ground the heel, the knee should also lock, otherwise it is considered a run which leads to disqualification. Sriramulu won by completing the walk at a timing of 1:36:05, as his main German competitor faced disqualification for breaking the rules of the slow walk.

Till date Commander V Sriramulu is very conscious about fitness, and does regular weight training and daily walks and weight training at home and is a regular walker. Commander Sriramulu, who retired from Indian Navy in 1975.
