Hashim Amla Beats Virat Kohli Record, Becomes Fastest Batsman To Reach 6000 Runs

South African opening batsman Hashim Amla has been struggling hard with the poor form in the series against India. So far, Amla had scored just 66 runs in the previous four games in the ongoing ODI series. But, here is a reason to celebrate for him as he became the fastest batsman to reach 6000 runs during the fifth ODI. The highlight is that Hashim Amla has beaten Virat Kohli’s record in this context.

Hashim Amla breaks Virat Kohli's record

Amla started the 5th ODI with 15 runs short of the landmark, and scored 23 runs before dismissing by Mohit Sharma. Amla achieved this feat in just his 123rd innings, breaking the mark set by Virat Kohli, who had gotten past the mark in 136 innings. Amla eclipsed Kohli’s record by 13 innings. The achievement of this landmark could potentially turn around his poor series.

Hashim Amla also holds the record of being the fastest batsman to reach the landmarks of 2000, 3000, 4000 and 5000 runs in ODI cricket. The top 10 list is dominated by South Africa with as many as four players from the African nation making the list. Earlier, Kohli had achieved the landmark during the ODI series against Sri Lanka in November and beats the record of Sir Vivian Richards in his 141st innings.
