MS Dhoni Takes A Dig At ICC Over D/L Method, Says ‘ICC Even Doesn’t Understand The Rule’

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has been facing criticism from cricket lovers for scheduling the Champions Trophy in England and Wales at this time of the year. With rain playing havoc and no reserve day, it has been difficult for the teams bowing out of the tournament.

After India’s convincing win over Pakistan, the Indian team attended a gala dinner that was hosted by the Indian captain Virat Kohli’s foundation. The fundraiser was attended by the entire Indian squad along with the coaching staff. Dhoni made this revelation on Monday, during Virat Kohli’s charity dinner.

Not just fans but cricket captains too have a hard time figuring the complex math behind the rule. The Indian team has already been part of two matches that have been decided by the D/L method. India beat New Zealand in their opening warm-up by 45 runs and then outclassed Pakistan by 124 runs in their first match of the Champions Trophy.

With rain dominating the proceedings so far in this year’s CT tournament which has already seen two games being washed out, Dhoni showed great presence of mind to pick on the Duckworth-Lewis D/L method.

The host Alan Wilkins asked Dhoni a question, “You’ve been around cricket for a long time, so can I ask you a question, do you understand Duckworth-Lewis?”

Responding to the query Dhoni reportedly said, joked that even ICC don’t understand how Duckworth-Lewis method works. I don’t think even ICC understands the D/L method,” said Dhoni with a smile.

Meanwhile, during the event, current Indian skipper, Virat Kohli quoted saying, “We set it up quite a while back but to get it rolling it was very important that we start raising funds in a big way. My vision was to provide for the underprivileged kids.”
