12-Year-Old Boy Drives Brother’s Truck To Flee Australian Bushfires With Dog

A 12-year-old boy in Australia and his dog managed to escape a massive fire that was near their family’s house by driving a vehicle.

12-year-old Lucas Sturrock was home alone on Sunday when he grabbed the keys of his brother’s truck and drove himself and the dog to safety.

Lucas was alone when the incident happened.

The brother and the father of Lucas went out to fight a fire in Mogumber, which is located 128 kilometers away from Perth.

When Lucas realized the fire was approaching their farm, he managed to grab the family dog and headed to his older brother’s pick-up truck.

Emergency workers in the area found Lucas and the dog inside the truck at the side of a road.

They managed to get out of the incident without sustaining any injuries.

Michael Daley, a police Sergeant, said, “It was great he had the driving skills to get out of there.”

Sergeant Daley added, “It is fantastic we found him and got him out of danger.”

Ivan Sturrock, the father of Lucas, said Lucas learned to drive a vehicle when he was just 7 years old.

Ivan added, “We taught him to drive since he was about seven just in case things like this do happen and I was quite proud of him, he did exactly what we told him to do,”

Lucas is one of the many people in Australia that have been forced to fly away from their houses due to the massive forest fires.

The massive forest fires have killed 6 people, destroyed over 680 million houses, and have burned nearly 3 million acres of bush land.

The fires are expected to decrease by the end of this week.
