28-Year-Old Chinese Coronavirus Medic Drops Dead After Working 10 Days Straight

A 28-year-old medic from China, who was working on the front line of the deadly coronavirus, dropped dead from a cardiac arrest after he worked for 10 days straight.

Song Yingjie, a medic, died from a cardiac arrest, which is likely to have been caused by exhaustion after working 10 days straight.

Song was based in Hunan, China, and had been helping in checking temperatures of passengers passing by toll booths.

He was also involved in distributing medical supplies in the area.

Zhou Xiaonian, the deputy director of the medical center where Song was a pharmacist, said the 28-year-old insisted on working every day from at least 4 pm to midnight for 10 days straight.

It is still not known how much overtime he might have done alongside the basic shift.

On February 3, 2020, Song finished his shift and dropped some of his colleagues at their homes before going back to sleep in his dormitory.

His dead body was found by his roommates in his dormitory.

Official reports said Song died from a cardiac arrest.

Song was a native of Kaiyun Town in Hengshan County and the City Government of Hengyang, China.

The death of Song was confirmed by the City Government of Hengyang on their official Weibo account.

The sister of Song was in quarantine in Wuhan and has been there for nearly 2 weeks.

During an interview with the local news agencies, the sister said her brother was outstanding in all ways.

She said, “He always helped with housework at home and was regarded highly at work by his boss. His passing is really devastated news to our family.”

The father of Song said he is worried because his daughter is in quarantine in Wuhan and can’t come back until the virus gets a vaccine.

He said, “My daughter is in Wuhan and can’t come back. It’s on lockdown. You asked me if I am worried, of course I am.”

He added, “Then my son worked [as a medic] on the highway. You asked me if I am scared… Now he has died, I am heartbroken.”

The uncle of Song also talked about how kind Song was.

The uncle said, “My nephew was usually very amiable. No matter who he saw, he would always have a smile on his face. He would help his parents with farm work in the fields, plant saplings and do housework. It’s not easy to find a young man like him.”

As of writing this article, the death toll from the coronavirus outbreak in mainland China rose to 563 and has infected over 28,018.
