9-Year-Old Georgia Girl Killed, Older Sister Seriously Injured By Lightning Bolt

A 9-year-old girl from Georgia was killed and her older sister was seriously injured after getting hit by a deadly lightning bolt.

Nicol Mateo Pedro was walking along a trail with her 15-year-old sister and mother when a storm hit the area of Moultrie.

The family sought refuge under a wooden shelter on the path to wait out the storm, however, things got worse.

A bolt of lightning struck a pine tree next to them as Nicol sat on a bench.

The 9-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the Colquitt Regional Medical Center.

Her 15-year-old sister was airlifted to John Still Burn Center at Doctors Hospital of Augusta with serious burns on her body.

The mother and others that were huddled under the shelter were not injured in the incident, confirmed the authorities.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the girl, may her soul rest in peace.
