A California mother revealed that she has a 23-year age gap between her and her daughter, but despite the age gap, people keep on thinking they are sisters.

43-year-old Joleen Diaz, the mother, and 19-year-old Meilani parks, the daughter, both from northern California, enjoy their close relationship.

The 2 love to spend time together, and as part of that, they get mistaken for sisters.

Joleen Diaz, an elementary teacher, said, “I’ve always lived a healthy, active lifestyle. I rarely drink alcohol, I get a lot of rest, and eat a balanced, healthy diet.”

The mother said she is centered on skincare.

Joleen said she started to keep her skin healthy when she was just 12 years old.

Talking about her relationship with her daughter, Joleen said, “We are very close. We do lots of things together, travel, shop, work out. And sometimes just lay on the couch and talk.”

Due to their closeness, people often think that the 43-year-old mother and her daughter are sisters.

Talking about how she feels when people think they look like sisters, Joleen said, “I don’t think she minds. While she was growing up, she would often hear people tell me they thought my mother was my sister.”

She added, “I was pretty young when I had her, so it’s not entirely impossible that we could be sisters.”

She continued, “I religiously take care of my skin, and everyday wash my face in the morning and before I go to bed. I began taking care of my skin at a young age, around 12 or 13. My mom used to buy Mary Kay and I would secretly use her skincare products.”

Talking about the product that shows dramatic change for her, she said Tretinoin, which is also known as Retin-A, has helped her get her skin look better.

Joleen said she has been using Retin-A for about 1 year and six months now.

Talking about her skin, Joleen said, “Living in California, sun protection is naturally key. I absolutely use sunscreen, every day, even on cloudy, rainy days. I also use a vitamin C serum day and night.”

She added, “Having good skin gives me confidence, even on the days I don’t look my best.”

Joleen says her daughter also follows the same routine like hers so she could maintain her radiant skin.

Melani reportedly started following her mother’s steps when she was just 12 years old.

Joleen also believes that her relaxed attitude has helped her keep a youthful glow.

She explained, “I’m pretty pragmatic, and try not to worry too much about the past or anticipate worries in the future.”

Joleen and her partner reportedly split up around 13 years ago.

But the mother says the family gets along and is usually on vacation altogether.

Despite being called as sisters, the Joleen and Meilani have never gone to parties or clubs together, and the mother wants to keep it that way.

Joleen said, “Meilani and I have never gone clubbing or partying together. And I don’t foresee us doing that anytime in the near future.”

She added, “I’ve had my share of doing both and these days I’d rather stay home, drink a nice cup of hot tea, and watch a good movie.”

They do look like sisters!
