Residents in San Diego, USA, are required to wear face masks when they go out in the public, but one man was caught wearing a KKK (Ku Klux Klan) hood.

The man was seen roaming the aisles of a Von Supermarket in the San Diego County City of Santee.

According to reports, the incident happened on May 2, 2020.

Store clerks repeatedly asked the man to remove the hood or leave the premises of the supermarket.

A supervisor approached him at the checkout line and asked him again to take off the hood or leave.

Melissa Hill, the spokeswoman of the Von Supermarket, said that the man removed the hood, bought the items that he had in the cart, and left the supermarket.

Melissa Hills called the actions of the man as disturbing and said that it affected their associates and customers.

She added:

This was a disturbing incident for our associates and customers, and we are reviewing with our team how to best handle such inappropriate situations in the future.

In a statement that Hill released, she said:

At Vons, fostering an environment of courtesy, dignity and respect is one of our highest priorities, and we work hard to hold everyone in our stores to these standards, including customers.

Tammy Gillies, the regional director of the Anti-Defamation League in San Diego, said:

San Diego is #NoPlaceForHate

John Minto, the Mayor of Santee, said that the actions of the man did not represent the values of the city, which has around 60,000 residents.

Mayor Minto said:

Many thanks to all who stepped forward to curtail this sad reminder of intolerance. Santee, its leaders and I will not tolerate such behavior.

Dianne Jacobs, the Supervisor of the County, said:

The images I’ve seen are abhorrent. This blatant racism has no place in Santee or any part of San Diego County. It is not who we are. It is not what we stand for and can’t be tolerated.

The KKK is a white supremacist hate group, whose primary target is African Americans.
