Visitors At French Zoo Scratch Their Names Into 35-Year-Old Rhino’s Back

The La Palmyre Zoo in Royan is currently criticizing the stupid act of visitors who scratched their names into a 35-year-old female rhinoceros in the first weeks of August.

Earlier this month, the 35-year-old female rhinoceros was photographed with names scratched on her back.

“Camille” and “Julien” were written on her back.

The photos that were shared showed the 2 names scratched on the back of her skin.

The pictures were shared on social media and almost everyone who saw the pictures was outraged by the “stupidity and the disrespect” of the visitors.

The zoo will not be taking any legal action against the people who wrote their names on the back of the 35-year-old female rhinoceros.

People who visit the La Palmyre Zoo in Royan are allowed to touch the rhinos if they are standing near the fence of the rhino enclosures.

The La Palmyre Zoo in Royan said that touching the animals allows the visitors to appreciate the beauty and the diversity of nature.

The director of the La Palmyre Zoo in Royan, Pierre Caille, said that the visitors used their nails to scratch their names on the back of the rhino.

Pierre added, “We quickly brushed the writing away and there was no harm to the animal.”

The La Palmyre Zoo in Royan is currently planning to install video surveillance so they could catch anyone who does a similar act.

According to the WWF (World Wildlife Fund), 3 of the 5 species of rhinos are currently critically endangered. This is all because of the natural habitat loss and poaching.
