Florida Man Arrested For Camping On Disney’s Discovery Island Saying It Was Tropical Paradise
Orange County, Florida: A 42-year-old man is currently facing trespassing charges for camping on the Discovery Island of Disney World.
The incident was confirmed by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were called to 4301 N. World Drive on Thursday after 42-year-old Richard McGuire was spotted on the property of Disney.
The Disney World is currently closed to the public.
According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, deputies searched for the 42-year-old man on foot, helicopter, and boat before they made contact with him.
When officers told McGuire that they had been using a loudspeaker to address him, the man said he couldn’t hear them because was sleeping inside a building on the island.
He called the island as a tropical paradise.
According to an arrest report, McGuire told officers the police that he was not aware that the property was off-limits.
He also said that he had been camping there since Monday or Tuesday and was planning to stay there for about 1 week.
The police arrested McGuire and was charged with trespassing on posted property.
He was also ordered not to return to any additional Walt Disney World properties.
