A murderer, who is serving a life sentence for stabbing his wife to death, gets awarded £310,000 from the taxman while he is in jail after he launched a legal bid.

Ian Workman, the prisoner, is currently serving a life sentence for stabbing his wife Sue in April 2011.

Workman reportedly stabbed his wife through the heart inside their luxury house.

The businessman and former millionaire lodged a complicated VAT claim for his business, IGW Group in Bolton and Blackburn.

A court ruling issued a £310,000 claim by a judge after the murderer gave evidence to the tribunal via a video link.

Workman insisted that he was owed the money in overpayments by using established case law covering motor traders being incorrectly charged VAT by HM Revenue and Customs on Demonstrator vehicles and manufacturer bonuses.

Jude Jonathan Cannan, the judge that granted the claim, ruled that 111 cars would have been eligible in the claim.

It is reported that the business of Workman was at its peak in the years 1994 and 1995.

He told the tribunal his figures were based on the vehicles that were being replaced 3 times per year and not 4.

Workman reportedly contended and said he could not follow why 30 courtesy vehicles were required for the bodyshop, so the numbers reduced to 15.

Judge Cannan said he was satisfied with what Mr. Workman said.

The judge said, “I am satisfied that Mr. Workman was very knowledgeable about the business generally. That is to be expected, as he was the driving force behind IGW Group.”

This is not the first time Workman has been embroiled in a legal proceeding since he killed his wife in 2011.

In 2017, Workman was required to pay Ben and Nicholas Workman, his 2 sons, £1.5million after he killed their mother during a divorce row.

The man killed his wife to avoid paying her half of his fortune.
