Malaysian Ship with Indians Goes Missing, Feared of Being Hijacked

A Malaysian cargo ship with 14 crew members has been found missing since a week. Official sources are raising speculations of being hijacked by the pirates in the in the piracy-prone South China Sea which has a few Indians as crew members on board. Search launches would be made by officials from Thursday to probe the missing of cargo ship as per the official sources.

Indian Crew Members on Board Malaysian Cargo Ship is Feared of Being Hijacked

Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) affirmed the speculations of cargo ships missing stating that a commercial vessel had reportedly spotted the missing ship about 23 nautical miles west of Miri on Wednesday evening and had notified the owners of the vessel MV Sah Lian. Reporting to media MMEA officials said “The ship was reported to have a damaged gearbox and propeller crankshaft. This morning the owner informed us and we quickly deployed our vessel.”

Malaysian-registered owners of the vessel, MV Sah Lian, lost contact with the cargo ship on September 3 while it travelled along the Malaysian state of Sarawak with a crew of 14, including Indians. Sarawak state’s coast guard chief, First Admiral Ismaili Bujang Pit said “We believe this ship has been hijacked and taken out of Malaysian waters. We believe it could be in Indonesian waters near the Natuna islands.” During the probe by MMEA officials over the missing of cargo ship it was disclosed by the owners MV Sah Lian that their ship was carrying a mixed cargo including iron products, piping and food from Kuching to the town of Limbang.

Eight suspected Indonesian pirates were caught immediately after a week of hijack  on a Vietnamese island who were believed of fleeing the tanker in a lifeboat.
