‘Baahubali’ Will Cross ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ In The Box Office Race Soon and Here’s Why

July 2015 saw two of the biggest releases in India. SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali featuring Prabhas, Anushka Shetty, Rana Daggubati, and Tamannah on one hand and Kabir Khan’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan starring Salman Khan, Kareena Kapoor on the other. Soon, the box office race began. And it’s continuing till date. Baahubali is breaking and making records every day, but the bigger question is that, Is ‘Baahubali’ going to beat ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ in the box office race soon? The Answer may be ‘Yes.’

'Baahubali' will beat 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan' in the box office race soon

‘Baahubali’ and ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ released a week away from each other and both the films have been instrumental in giving the industry over Rs 1200 crore alone in a matter of two months. It’s been over 50 days to their release, but the movies are still running in some theatres worldwide. While the box office collections of Bajrangi Bhaijaan are slightly ahead when it comes to the gross collections globally, the equations are definitely going to change soon and here it is why.

'Baahubali' will beat 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan' in the box office race soon

Baahubali which opened to a magnanimous Rs 50 crore at the domestic circuit maintained its momentum and soon entered the Rs 250 crore club in the domestic circuit alone. It is made on a budget of around 250 cr which is the highest ever in Indian cinema. Baahubali as of now has earned 602 crores worldwide gross which is monumental. Indian Cinema has never seen such unprecedented numbers by a regional film. Baahubali is now the third highest grossing Indian film ever with Rs 602 crore in its kitty. This collection is a combined collection of the movie’s Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and French versions.

On the contrary, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, which released a week later scored high on the Salman Khan presence and turned out to be Salman’s biggest blockbuster till date. Brilliant performances and with an extremely emotional backdrop, Bajrangi Bhaijaan soon became the biggest blockbuster of the year so far. This movie was Salman’s first entry into the Rs 300 crore net club, keeping the domestic box office in mind. Bajrangi Bhaijaan has been made on a budget of 60-70 crore which is nearly one-fourth of Baahubali’s budget and yet the film has collected whopping Rs 612 crore worldwide gross, 10 crores more than Baahubali. With that, BB has also turned out to be the second highest grossing Indian film ever.

Will ‘Baahubali’ beat ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ in the box office race soon?

Baahubali director, Rajamouli has now decided to make a special international version of his magnum opus as well. Baahubali, the Tamil-Telugu movie that has made more than Rs 600 crores so far, is all set to release in China. China’s E Stars Films has acquired the rights for SS Rajamouli film in China and will now release it in 5000 screens in the country. The large-scale release in China means that 18% of all theatres in the country will screen this film. While the film, Baahubali has already collected more than Rs 600 crore, if it takes off well in China, it could well rake in much more. Currently, it is PK that holds the highest gross overseas collection with a humongous Rs 752 crore gross collection all over the world.

The gap between the two films – Baahubali & Bajrangi Bhaijaan is of merely Rs 10 crore. While Baahubali is now having another international version hitting the overseas market in phases soon, BB has no plans to do the same anytime in the near future. Hence, the 10 crore gap will easily be bridged once Baahubali hits the Chinese markets.
