Before Ranveer Singh, This Actor Was Asked To Play The Role Of ‘Alauddin Khilji’

Amidst the ongoing ugly controversy regarding the Bhansali’s directorial ‘Padmavati’, another surprising news has come out. The recent speculations on the Internet claimed that it was senior actor Ajay Devgan, who was offered the role of Alauddin Khilji in Padmavati. With the rumors of this going viral on all social media platforms, the Bhansali crew has finally come forward clearing the air.

As of now, since the release of the trailer, it is pretty clear that it is hard to imagine anyone but Ranveer Singh as Alauddin Khilji. Talking about the same, the sources close to the Bhansali Productions dismissed the stories as “irrelevant PR” and told the publication,

“Ajay was never offered Padmavati. The Khilji role was Ranveer Singh’s from the very start. Ajay had been offered Bajirao Mastani; he was the first choice for the role. And Bhansali sir was keen to team up with him again after Hum… Dil De Chuke Sanam. But things didn’t work out then.”

Back then when the news was spread like wildfire, Ajay had admitted that he was offered Bajirao Mastani, but it did not work out as he and Sanjay Leela Bhansali could not agree on the terms and conditions.

Coming to the reasons behind his denial of the much-acclaimed role, Ajay has quoted a staggering fee, which compelled Bhansali to approach his Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela hero, Ranveer Singh. Not just this, Ajay was reportedly asked to allot 200 consecutive days to shoot the period drama, which would have clashed with the shooting schedule of his home production, Shivaay.

Meanwhile, post the ongoing ugly threats and protests throughout the country, the release of Padmavati, which also stars Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor, has been pushed indefinitely. News has it that the movie might be scheduled to release in February of the next year.
