Isn’t this quite good to hear such things from the legendary Bill Gates? Well, after all, credits to the whole crew of ‘Toilet’, for coming up with such a unique and productive subject.
Now, after being aware of such a comment from Bill Gates, Akshay at a recent event said, “Yesterday I was on stage, and when I checked my phone I saw Bill Gates’ name. I was surprised. It’s amazing that people sitting there are watching the film. It is just that we need to improve our country further. Around one and a half years back, we had 54% of Indians openly defecating, and that was a problem. Now it has come down to 34%. So things are moving. 82% Indian women don’t use sanitary pads. With PadMan I hope, with the help of everyone including the media and government, this number comes down.”
He also spoke about how he enjoys doing films that give a message to the audience in an entertaining way. He said, “Well I am enjoying this, and at the same time I am enjoying commercial cinema also. I have done a Housefull also. I love doing all kind of movies. And yes, this kind of cinema attracts me. It gives me satisfaction as an actor and as a human being.”
The PADMan actor then concluded, “We showed Toilet: Ek Prem Katha on Doordarshan. The government also showed people this movie in every village of India. Similarly, we’ll take this film forward too. My motto is not to make loads of money through the film. We want that the film is impactful where needed most. And I have taken it up as a personal responsibility, and will take it further with the help of Indian government.”
