Dial ‘1925’ To Activate Or Deactivate Mobile Internet Services In India

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has come up with the new idea to reduce the problems people are facing in deactivating the services with the network operators. Mobile users are now allowed to Activate or Deactivate Internet services through their devices itself. Just by calling or sending an SMS to a toll free number 1925. This facility is available from 1st September, 2015.

This was announced by the TRAI officials on Friday. Officials had said that all the telecom operators have to provide this number to Activate or Deactivate Mobile Internet services from September 1st. Customers can either call or send an SMS to 1925. The below process has to be followed by the user.

“To activate the service, users must to send SMS with the message ‘START’ to 1925 and to deactivate the service, SMS ‘STOP’ and send it to 1925. Telecom operators are given the instructions to instantly reply to the customer with the status of the request.”

As Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) follows, a large number of complaints from customers that mobile operators were keeping the process of deactivation very complex to earn extra revenue. Thus the TRAI official said that “No service provider shall activate or deactivate the data service on the Cellular Mobile Telephone connection of a consumer without his explicit consent.”

The telecom operators always had refused complete deactivation of mobile Internet services. Even there was a provision to activate or deactivate a value added service earlier too. “These complaints mainly relate to non-availability of information relating to data usage non-availability of information to consumers whenever the data pack is exhausted. Activation of Internet service on mobile phones without the explicit consent of the consumer,” TRAI official added.

 “Authority decided that those consumers taking data packs such as STV (Special Tariff Voucher) or Combo Voucher or add-on pack will be deemed to have given their consent for data services. Such consent will be deemed to be only for the duration of validity of data pack or on exhausting the data limit, whichever is earlier,” the regulator said.
