Independence Movement in India:

Struggle for India’s Independence begun in 1857 with the Sepoy Mutiny in Meerut. Later, In the 20th century under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi, Indian National Congress and other political organizations launched a countrywide independence movement. It took many years of effort, non-violence and other movement by our national freedom fighter to attain Freedom.

Constituent Assembly, to who power was to be transferred, met to celebrate India’s independence at 11pm on August 14, 1947. India gained its liberty and became a free country at midnight between August 14 and August 15, 1947. Colonial powers were transferred to India on August 15, 1947. Hence, we celebrate our Independence Day on 15th of August every year. There is gazetted holiday on Independence Day in India every year on Aug 15th.

The national flag of India, the mighty tricolor or the ‘Tiranga’, Deep saffron (kesaria) at the top, white in the middle, and dark green at the bottom in equal proportion. In the center of the white band navy-blue wheel band represents the chakra.
