Delhi government targets 10,000 jobs in next leg of job summit

In order to provide employment opportunities to youth, Delhi government has organized an 8-day job summit in the month of August 2015. As many as 25 private companies had participated in the summit (Job Mela) to offer opportunities to around 1,500 job seekers. Buoyed by the success of its first job summit, the Delhi government on Thursday (August 27) said it will soon organize another round of the event under which it would provide jobs to around 10,000 people.

Employment Minister Gopal Rai on Friday (August 28) held a meeting with various leading companies, NGOs and umbrella organizations like FICCI, ASSOCHAM and CII to partner in next job fair. The minister said the meeting discussed the next leg of the job summit which will aim at improving the employability skills of job seekers. “It was decided that a bridge will be established to fill the gap of skill, lack of attitude, confidence of the job seekers to enhance their employability,” he said.

The minister said the department will take a call on a date and a venue for screening of job seekers for the next job summit after confirming participation of companies and job description of posts, including the posts for Person with Disabilities.

“So far we restricted the candidate based on the data available with us at employment exchange but now it will be open for all. Anyone can apply and get job in the next job summit,” Rai said.

The government will also partner with NGOs which assisted more than 300 disabled persons in getting job in the first summit, he added.

 “In the first summit we spoke to private companies and 38 of them participated. We targeted to provide employment to 1,000 people but got positive response and 2,108 candidates were offered job. This has motivated us to hold a job summit at a bigger level,” labour Minister Gopal Rai said.

In the first job summit held from August 1 to 8, as many as 2,100 persons, including 306 disabled, were shortlisted by 30 companies. Parliamentary Secretary has said that the government has also decided to provide training programme to candidates who fail in the interviews. This is being done for the first time that government will give training to such youths who could not pass their interview in the job summit.
