Miss World Manushi Chhillar Reacts On Deepika Padukone’s “Padmavati”

Manushi Chhillar, after the tiresome waiting of 17 years, this Indian woman has finally bagged the Miss World title and this certainly is a landmark achievement for India in 2017. The 20-Year-Old Haryanvi woman Manushi Chhillar has taken the mainstream media by storm by winning the prestigious and pivotal title all the way.

She has become the center of the spotlight within a fortnight. She undeniably is the topic of discussion in the whole country. She became the sixth woman from India. India won the title last in the year 2000 when Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra made a mark at the event.

This time, the event was held at Sanya City Arena, in China. Manushi was crowned by Stephanie Del Valle, Miss World 2016 from Puerto Rico. Manushi competed against 118 contestants who represented their nations.

As we know that Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s most awaited film ‘Padmavati’ has been facing criticism from many quarters in the country. Padmavati has been facing constant opposition in the form of violence and threats from members of Rajput Karni Sena ever since they disrupted the shoot of the film in Jaipur earlier this year. Also, some groups have threatened the actress (Deepika) and director Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

Addressing to this, recently in a press conference a journalist asked Miss World Manushi Chhillar about “the ironical state in the nation, where on one hand a woman is being praised for her success in the international arena and on the other hand a successful and established starlet, is receiving death threats.

Manushi replied: “I feel if there’s one thing all Indian women have in common is that we don’t feel persecuted for who we are. We face our challenges head-on. That’s what we need to do. We need to be confident of who we are. Definitely, we will face a lot of limitations and sometimes we do feel it isn’t a women-friendly society but as individuals, we should set an example and make women feel confident that you can do amazing things as well.”

The movie has been indefinitely postponed owing to the controversy around it. It also stars Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh in important roles.
