Smriti Irani Reacts, 5 Held After Deepika Padukone Tweeted On Goons Vandalizing ‘Padmavati’ Rangoli

While the trailer and posters garnered immense critical acclaim to every actor, technician and the director, there is a shadier side that is clouding the journey of Padmavati. Started off in Jodhpur sets when people belonging to Rajput Community ‘Karni Sena’ has stormed into sets vandalizing the whole place.

This controversy only went forward with time. There are many incidents in which the posters of Ranveer Singh are set on fire as people went feeling that the movie has some explicit content in which Alauddin Khilji will be seen romancing with Deepika, who is a Rajput Queen. The people from Karni Sena were offended by this for the way Padmini’s characterization will be degraded.

Though the director Sanjay Leela Bhansali in various occasions tried to clear the air regarding this, there was nothing that could literally stop the controversy.

By the way, the lead actress Deepika Padukone has never opened up about the issue before, but, with the recent incident in which the artist named Karan. K’s rangoli of ‘Padmavati’ was vandalized, she has come out posting series of tweets urging the concerned authorities to take the immediate action.

Check out the artist’s post here:

Deepika in the tweets thread, went stating her opinion aggressively. She talked about the communal integrity and the goon-tasks in which Padmavati is falling prey at every moment. She wrote, “absolutely heartbreaking to see the recent attack on artist Karan and his artwork!disgusting and appalling to say the least!”

Her further tweet read, “Who are these people?Who is responsible for their actions? For how long are we going to let this go on?”, following that, added, “allow them to take law into their own hands & attack our freedom & right to individual expression time & again!?”

Next, to all of these tweets, she urged the central minister Smriti Irani to take an immediate action against the incident. Deepika wrote, “this has to stop NOW & action must be taken! @smritiirani”.

Now, finally, after the tweets, the authorities started looking into the matter.  Reacting on the same, Surat Commissioner of Police, Satish Sharma said, “We have arrested five persons, four of them belonging to outfit Karni Sena and one from the VHP. More persons are likely to be arrested as the video footage recovered by us shows 8-10 persons involved in the activity.”

Thanks to Smriti Irani for reacting to the incident as soon as Deepika has appealed. Sharma then added, “I also want to make it clear that the police will deal with strictness against any such action. Freedom of expression is everyone’s right in a democracy, but vandalism will not be allowed.”
