Oopiri Hindi Remake: Karan Johar Buys The Rights Of Nagarjuna-Karthi’s Thozha
Nagarjuna and Karthi’s latest bilingual film Oopiri (titled Thozha in Tamil) has turned out to be a superhit in both Telugu and Tamil film industries. According to latest reports, continuing his keen interest in the Telugu film industry, Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar has bought the Hindi remake rights of ‘Oopiri’. Interestingly, Oopiri is itself a remake of French movie ‘The Intouchables.’
This news was shared by Nagarjuna in a recent promotional event and he got excited that the scope of Telugu cinema is going to be doubled by these kinds of good films. Talking about Karan acquiring the rights for the Hindi remake, Nagarjuna said, “I am really happy Karan Johar bought the remake rights. Would I be in the Hindi film? I don’t know. That’s up to Mr. Johar. I am just happy to have done the two versions in Telugu and Tamil.”
“Oopiri,” directed by Vamsi Paidipally, is the story that develops in the backdrop of an affectionate relationship between a quadriplegic millionaire played by Nagarjuna and his male caretaker played by Karthi. The film has Tamannaah in the female lead.
KJo had last year purchased the remake rights of S.S. Rajamouli’s Telugu film “Baahubali – The Beginning” for a whopping amount, and the film became a huge success worldwide, with the Hindi version crossing Rs 100 crore mark.
The cast and crew of the Hindi remake of Oopiri are yet to be decided. We have to wait and see who would be playing the lead roles of Nag & Karthi in Hindi version.
