Depressed Boyfriend Jet-Skis Across Irish Sea To Meet Girlfriend, Ends Up Getting Jailed For 4 Weeks
The dumb things we do for love.
A man that crossed the Irish Sea on a jet ski to meet his girlfriend has been jailed for breaching the coronavirus restrictions.
Dale McLaughlan, who is 28 years old, took 4 hours and 30-minute travel from Scotland to the Isle of Man to meet his girlfriend.
The man did the act on Friday this week.
Dale used a jet sky despite never having used it before.
Right now, the Isle of Man’s have laws, which only allows residents to enter the island.
People that do not live there need special permission to be allowed into the island.
The man was given permission in September this year for 1 day, but that was not heard and his subsequent applications were rejected by the island.
After that, prosecutors found that the man had bought a jet ski so he could journey 40 kilometers.
Initially, he thought that it would only take him around 40 minutes to get to the island, but it ended up taking him 4.5 hours.
After arriving in Ramsey, the man walked 25 kilometers to his girlfriend’s house.
The court was told that his girlfriend believed that he had been on the island working for a number of weeks.
On Saturday this week, McLaughlan gave the police her address as his own and on the same evening, the couple went to 2 busy nightclubs.
After carrying out identification checks, the police ended up arresting him.
McLaughlan’s defense lawyer said that their client had suffered from depression and was not coping up with being unable to see his partner during this pandemic.
Deputy High Bailiff Christopher Arrowsmith sentenced him to four weeks in jail.
