Fight Against Breast Cancer: “Pink Sunday” On 18 October
This Thursday morning, the Ministry of Health, was presented the program of events organized around the “Sunday Rose”. A day of awareness and mobilization will be organized as part of the fight against breast cancer.
The month of October is dedicated to fighting breast cancer and is called for that purpose “Pink October”. Every year at this time is organized major global mobilizations and protests. This show of solidarity towards women with breast cancer is particularly symbolized by wearing a pink ribbon. Several topics related to breast cancer will be discussed during the day.
Including the prevention of risk factors associated with lifestyle, the breast cancer screening, and care and support for cancer patients. The activities of the “Pink Sunday” will start at 7:30 am, with a hike organized by the League against Cancer in Fautaua Valley. This output includes a guided tour including explanations on the flora, fauna, and history.
Miss Tahiti 2015, Vaimiti Benefits, is the godmother of the event. From 10 to 18, in the gardens of Paofai will be offered information booths, sports, and cultural events, as well as workshops and wellness care. Mini-lectures will be presented by health professionals.
Finally, a “Ukulele pink party”, bringing together ukulele enthusiasts, will be held from 15:30 to 16:30. In French Polynesia, breast cancer is the leading cause of death among women with cancer. In 2011, the number of women affected by breast cancer is 136 cases. However, detected at an early stage, this type of cancer can be cured in 90% of cases and be treated with less aggressive treatments.
