The Story of Sher Shah (Captain Vikram Batra) of Kargil War

Captain Vikram Batra was born on 9th September 1974, was a brave officer of Indian army who sacrificed his life for our motherland, is a part of the Indian Army’s legend.  He led one of the toughest operations in mountain warfare in Indian history. Nicknamed Sher Shah (‘Lion King’) for his unstinting courage, we salute and bow down in respect.

He was awarded the Param Vir Chakra, India’s highest military honor on 15 August 1999, the 52nd anniversary of India’s independence for brave actions during the 1999 Kargil War in Kashmir between India and Pakistan.

Captain Vikram Batra’s father Mr. G.L. Batra received the honor for his deceased son from the President of India, the late K.R. Narayanan.
