The national capital, Delhi lawmakers about to get almost 400% hike in their salary. However, majority of the legislators in Delhi are from AAP which is drawing various speculations and anticipations over a four-fold hike in the pay of MLA’s. Political analyst’s are claiming an alarm over the hike in the pay since after the increase in the hike of MLA’s of Delhi they would be turning out as highly paid legislators in the country.

Sources added that after the hike of salaries of Delhi legislators, their monthly salary would be around Rs. 3.2 lakh. As per the current records and estimations no state in the nation is paying or intends to pay the legislators with such a highest salary. A committee appointed by the by the Delhi assembly speaker Ram Niwas Goel recommended the hike in the salaries of the MLA’s.

The state government of Delhi is paying its legislators and MLA’s with a basic salary of Rs. 82, 000. Previously the Congress Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit government made salary revisions during their regime with a 100% hike. It is being reported a group of MLA’s from AAP favored and asked for a hike in their salary during the month of July.

Delhi state assembly sources hinted that most of the AAP lawmakers opined that what they earn was not enough to run their homes and offices and were completely expressing their disappointment over this. The newly framed committee for the revision of pay of Delhi MLA’s suggested that they should be awarded a basic salary from Rs. 12,000 to Rs. 50,000, the constituency allowance from Rs18,000 to 50,000 and conveyance allowance from Rs. 6000 to Rs. 30,000 – among other hikes.

The anticipative four-fold hike in the salaries of most of the AAP MLA’ s before this Diwali is being opposed by Delhiites and a section of non-AAP legislators. Opposition Congress party leaders gathered outside Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Chief Arvind Kejriwal house to protest against the fourfold hike in the pay of legislators.

Though the approval of the proposal of 400 % hike in the salaries of Delhi MLA’s hasn’t been approved by the legislative assembly while it is speculated that it would be done of the AAP intended to do that as Mr. Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party has 67 of 70 seats in state assembly.

Though the congress party had failed to win a single seat for the assembly while BJP has won three seats. Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta, BJP MLA said. “With its unlimited generosity in the matter of pay and allowances for Delhi MLAs, the Aam Aadmi Party Government has become ‘Khas’ Aadmi Party.” Though the Delhi state government hadn’t made any comment in this regard while AAP leader Ashutosh said “For an honest MLA of any party, it’s impossible to sustain family/run constituency office in meagre salary. Dishonest don’t need the salary.”

On the contrary another AAP leader and a section of APP MLA’s are against the increase of salaries for the legislators claiming there is rampant poverty in the country and farmers are being driven to suicide which are need to be addressed initially.
