Motorola Starts Seeding Android Marshmallow Update for Moto G (Gen 3) Handsets in India

Motorola, the smartphone manufacturing company has come up with a New Year’s surprise to its Moto G3 users in India as the handsets will now receive an Android 6.0 Marshmallow update. The company has now started seeding Android Marshmallow update for its Moto 3 (3rd generation) devices in India. Last year, in the month of November, the company has rolled out Android Marshmallow update to a limited number of Moto G2 devices such as Moto X Style and Moto X (Gen 2) in India. Motorola India has announced this news on its microblogging account.

Starting this New Year, the users of Moto G2 will be able to use their devices that run on the latest Google’s OS, Android Marshmallow 6.0. It has made an announcement via Twitter as, “Here is something new and amazing for your Moto G (3rd Gen.), the Android 6.0 Marshmallow!” However, the company has not mentioned the specific date of the rollout for the Motorola Moto G handsets in the tweet.

Moto G Gen 3 Devices to get Android Marshmallow Update

The third-generation phone of the Moto G series will now be upgraded from Android 5.1.1 (Lollipop) to Android 6.0. The new update of Android Marshmallow will offer amazing features and pretty many enhancements to the Moto G handsets. The company has recommended installing this Android Marshmallow update on your device when the battery in the phone is at least 50 percent charged and one is connected to a Wi-Fi network.

Features of Android 6.0 Update

The Android 6.0 Marshmallow update brings the following features to the Moto G3 devices:

  • Better memory management
  • Google Now on Tap
  • Doze Mode
  • App Standby for improved battery life
  • System UI Tuner
  • Do Not Disturb button
  • Deeper app permissions
  • Direct Share

The latest Android Marshmallow update will also remove Moto Assist, Motorola Migrate and the Google Chrome extension found in Motorola Connect from these two variants. Some of the other major modifications added with new update include Google Now on Tap which allows contextual information to be delivered based on content on the screen with a long-press of the home key.

How to check for the update?

The company has made an announcement that the Moto G3 devices will roll out with the Android Marshmallow update. But, it is not clear that how the users will be notified regarding the new update and is there any process for checking the update. Generally, the phone would notify you about the new Android marshmallow update. If, however, one does not receive the update notification, one can easily check for the update in a manual manner.

Let us recall the specifications of Motorola Moto G. The Moto G3 smartphone features a 5-inch HD display with a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for protection. The handset will sport the Android 5.1.1 OS along with proprietary Motorola features that include Moto Display, Quick Capture and Chop Twice. The device comes powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 SoC with a 1.4GHz quad-core processor which is coupled with 1GB of RAM.

On the storage front, the device includes an internal storage of 8GB. The Moto G3 comes in two storage variants – 2GB RAM for the 16GB storage variant. On the camera front, the device comes equipped with a  13MP rear snapper along with a 5MP front-facing camera. The Moto G3 device will come in the dual SIM configuration that support 4G SIM cards as well. The handset is power-packed by a 2,470mAh capacity battery that completes the package.
