Floating Fortune: People Found Rs 1000 Notes In Gateway Of India Waters!

On Tuesday afternoon, people living in Mumbai’s adjacent sea were suprised when they came to know that an unknown person threw a huge amounts of cash into the water. Money doesn’t grows on trees but in Mumbai money is floating the sea. The visitors and hawkers near the tourist spot at the Gateway of India noticed that floating money in the sea waters.

The money was first spotted by the Local fishermen and the currency was mostly the denominations of RS 1000 but a few of local decided to jump into the water to collect money that is floating in the sea.

According to Colaba resident Harichandra Somar, “I heard that currency notes were floating in the water near Gateway and when I rushed to the spot I saw several notes close to the sea wall. Since it was low tide, I immediately climbed down and picked up two Rs 1,000 notes. I rushed home and handed them to my family. I then made two more rounds and collected three more Rs 1,000 notes.”

According to locals on Tuesday at 2 pm some person threw a bundle of cash in the sea and ran off.  “After collecting Rs 5,000 I didn’t return as the water level began rising due to high tide”, Somar added.  S Wakil, a fort resident managed to grab just one Rs 1,000 note. By the time he tried to make a second attempt, the police had arrived. Similarly, As word spread in the city Santosh Pawar, a hawker from Colaba, also rushed to the spot to grab the notes.
He managed to get hold of only one Rs 1,000 note before the cops detained him.

Here the question arises among the people where did the notes come from ? Why did they throw bundles of money in the sea?. According to one of the local Pawar, a foreigner threw them in the water. “I heard someone say that a foreigner threw a bundle of notes into the water and dared passersby to help themselves. When I reached the spot, I saw that several people had climbed into the water and I too did so, but unlike some others I got only one note.”

Soon after some time the police arrived to the spot as this word spread in the entire city and finally it reached the police officer. A Colaba police officer said, “We detained three people who said they collected Rs 1,000 each from the water. We released them after recording their statements.”

I received an SMS at 4.30 pm that notes of Rs 1,000 had been found in the water near the Gateway and immediately rushed there,” said Vinay Gadgil, senior inspector, Colaba police station.

“We spent three hours looking for currency notes but did not find any,” he said, adding that the text message was a rumour. “It is possible that some tourists spotted money in the water among the offerings that people make to the sea,” said the police officer. The police are investigating about the floating of bundle of Rs 1000 notes in the sea near
