We all know that Xiaomi’s new smart phone is Redmi 2 Prime when Amazon India accidentally listed an unannounced Xiaomi phone. Today Xiaomi officially launched the Redmi 2 Prime which is the first ‘Made in India’ smart phone in Andhra Pradesh. It is said because the new Xiaomi phone was manufactured at the company’s supply partner Foxconn’s assembling plant at Sri City, Visakhapatnam.

The Redmi 2 Prime is essentially the Redmi 2 Limited Edition, first launched in China and more recently launched in Singapore as the Redmi 2 enhanced. “Redmi 2 Prime is the first smartphone from Xiaomi to be assembled in our facility in Sri City. We would like to thank Andhra Pradesh government for helping us to start local manufacturing within just six months.

Initial talks started in February and today we have already started to sell the Redmi 2 Prime,” Xiaomi Global VP Hugo Barra said. It is priced at Rs 6,999 and will be available across Xiaomi official site Mi.com/in, Amazon, Flipkart and Snapdeal. Redmi 2 Prime is the enhanced version of Redmi 2. Where the Redmi 2 features 1GB of RAM, and 8GB internal storage, the Redmi 2 Prime features 2GB of RAM and 16GB internal storage.  The remaining features are same as 4.7-inch HD (1280×720 pixels) display and it is powered by a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 410 64-bit quad-core processor.

The internal storage is expandable up to 32GB using a microSD card slot. Coming to camera, it features an 8-megapixel camera at the back with LED flash, and a 2-megapixel selfie camera up front. It also features a 2,200mAh battery, connectivity options include dual-SIM card slots, 4G LTE support, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth, and on the software front, it runs on MIUI 6 based on Android KitKat.
